Etienne Jacob

It was a post that was shared on Mastodon that introduced me to the amazing work of Etienne, I’d highly recommend following them: @bleuje@mathstodon.xyz ~ so many inspirational pieces to view ツ

Etienne Jacob is a software engineer, and artist creating GIF animations through programming. I am not someone who likes numbers. I was always pretty rubbish at math ~ so I am in awe of Etienne’s work as the complexity of what’s behind these pieces is way, way WAY beyond me, yet the result is utterly creative and inspiring ツ

The site, bleuje • Loops, creative coding, is beautiful simplicity ~ giving the work on show space to make their impression. I return to this site when I need a brain reset. Though I have to be careful, as the animations are utterly mesmerizing and can keep me there for way too long… :D

The following is a screenshot of the homepage, taken 26/07/2026:

Make sure to take a look at the animations ~ mindblowing ツ
Etienne kindly gave me permissions to embed some of these on my site, the creative spot ~ take a look at these small glimpses into these stunning loops, all created with code! The following screenshot is merely the static version to stir your curiosity ツ

And then there is the amazing Variograph ~ one of the projects well worth a look. It boggles my mind ツ

Variograph builds upon the work of generateme1, who explored various 2D transformations, their combinations, and their visualizations2. These functions/transformations are termed ‘variations’, which inspired the project’s name.

My project takes a significant leap forward by utilizing the GPU for rendering visuals, as opposed to the CPU. This shift enables a range of real-time interactions. Additionally, I have developed an algorithm that introduces a mode with 3D structures instead of 2D.

How exactly this has been created it beyond me ~ and that abstract calculations can produce such beautiful and intriguing images is simple wonderful. Have a look yourself ツ

Here are a few more of these visuals after I kept playing… there’s a whole page of instructions and extra info in the footer, check out the ‘controls and information’. And you can save your pieces + the actual function as well, one for the geeks for sure.
